Anyone who uses a hair styling tool on the regular—be it a hair dryer or flat iron—probably knows about the $600 Dyson Airwrap, which promises to be several tools wrapped into one system. In fact, we at Reviewed shouted out the multi-attachment kit as a curling iron worth splurging on because it contains everything you need to style your hair from wet to dry and creates beautiful, voluminous curls. Those who haven’t gotten their hands on the frequently-sold-out Airwrap may rejoice to learn there’s a competitor that threatens to dethrone Dyson with its new multi-styling tool: the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System. Shark version is half the price—plus you can preorder it now.

While we haven’t tested the Shark yet, the company said the styling system is available in two versions, each with its own set of attachments:

This $270 kit includes two 1.25 Auto-Wrap Curlers to curl in both directions, an oval brush attachment that claims to defrizz and add volume, a paddle brush one that aims to straighten and smooth the hair and a concentrator nozzle that offers better control while drying.

This option includes 1.25 Auto-Wrap curlers, oval brush, concentrator nozzle and a diffuser for drying a curly or coily style.

For both versions, the tool can also act as a hair dryer with no attachments needed once snapped into position. You can also build your own tool for $250 by choosing the three attachments you’d use most often between the two kits.

Regardless of the kit you choose, Shark claims you can use the attachments to style your hair while you dry it for a quicker routine. It also claims that the FlexStyle will dry your hair faster than the Dyson Airwrap and without any heat damage, as the tool maintains a low heat that’s “measured 1,000 times per second to ensure consistent air temperature—leading to minimal heat exposure and no heat damage.”

The tool, which offers four heat settings and three airflow settings, claims to be lightweight at 1.5 pounds and friendly for all hair types and skill levels.

Beyond the presale, the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System will be available for purchase on Shark’s website on September 6 and available in retailers mid-Septemb.
