I'm a laundry expert... six ways to dry your washing without a tumble dryer - and one of them is a popular hair tool | The US Sun

TUMBLE dryer is a go-to for many in winter - but as the cost-of-living crisis engulfs the nation, most of us are on the lookout for less costly alternatives.

Fortunately, one expert has listed six easy ways Britons can get their washing bone dry indoors, The Express reported.

Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap, explained: “A vital part of drying things effectively is using heat.

''Put your washed clothes on a flat surface (ideally an ironing board, but a countertop will suffice).

“Next, place a clean towel over the garments and run the iron over the top.

“The heat from the iron will steadily dry the clothes, meanwhile the towel should absorb any excess moisture from the fabric fibres and prevent additional heat damage.”

For drying smaller items, such as socks and underwear, the whizz advised using a fan.

“Set up your fan so that it blows air across your clean laundry, but ensure that your items are securely pegged down to avoid them blowing away.

“Additionally, try to avoid putting any clothes too close to your fan’s blades, as you don’t want them to block the air flow or get tangled up.”

It might give you the perfect curls or the sleekest hairdo, but this handy tool is also perfect for drying clothes when you need them immediately.

Setting the device to the lowest setting, the hair straightener can also act as a mini clothes iron and remove any wrinkles in your garments.

The expert added: “Any creases should immediately vanish. However, make sure you consider which items you use this technique on, as some delicate fabrics could get damaged.

“This method works best with cotton T-shirts, shirts and trousers, but always read the label before you start.”

Sharing his expertise, the guru said: “After taking your clothes out of the washing machine, be sure to hang them in front of any entrances or warmer spots in your home, including radiators, windows or doors.”

While you might not be tempted to open their windows during the colder months, it is recommended to get fresh air inside the home regardless of whether you are drying washing or not, as this will prevent damp.

“As a rule of thumb, keep the device at arm’s length from the item of clothing in order to prevent any heat-damage to their materials.

“Likewise, avoid obstructing the airflow to your hairdryer, otherwise the appliance may also overheat.”

Dehumidifiers are electronic appliances that, like the name suggests, suck out moisture from indoor air.

Hanging your laundry on a drying rack and positioning a dehumidifier nearby can help to reduce drying time - whilst saving £45 every month.

Deyan said: “Since this process uses dry air rather than heat to dry your washing, your laundry will end up feeling softer and smelling more fresh, as dehumidifiers prevent damp and musty odours from clinging to your clothes.”
