It’s the hair tool to replace all others. By Dani Maher

THE DYSON AIRWRAP might just be the most-talked about hair styling tool ever released. On TikTok alone, videos related to the versatile styler have amassed a dazzling 3.1 billion views at the time of publishing, and the hashtag #DysonAirwrap has over 170,000 posts on Instagram.

The tool really is one to be marvelled at: Its newest edition can dry your hair, smooth flyaways, curl your hair in both directions, and create effortless blowouts with ease. For renowned hair stylist and founder of Ouai haircare, Jen Atkin, it’s a go-to for all her last minute styling needs.

“I don’t always have time to style my hair in full every morning so I love the fact that I can use the Coanda smoothing dryer to refresh my style quickly and I can remove flyaways to give me a more polished look,” she says.

“Sometimes I also just create a bend in the front of my hair using the volume brush to give it a quick lived-in look.”

For those who are used to old fashioned curling tongs and irons though, getting used to the newfangled device may seem daunting — so we turned to Atkin to give us her top tips on creating beautiful looks that last all day.

According to Atkin, the Airwrap is a go-to tool for “effortless looking blow-outs — fast”. Read on for her step-by-step guide to creating the perfect at-home blowout using the Airwrap:

Whether it’s a blowout or some classic curls, it’s all well and good to create the perfect hairstyle, but there is a trick to getting it to last the maximum amount of time.

“A hot tip is that I always recommend using the cold shot button to set a style and make it last longer!” Atkin advises.

She also adds that for those who are concerned about using hot tools on their hair, the Airwrap is a gentler option that maintains hair health. “My hair is the healthiest it has ever been — it has natural shine, the style holds and my colour lasts longer than ever,” she adds.

Unlike hot tools, there isn’t a product — like a heat protectant — that you have to use before styling with the Airwrap. Thats because, as the name implies, it relies on air rather than extreme heat.

If you want to make your style last longer, Dyson advise that you can apply a “pre-styling product with hold”, like the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream or Ouai’s Hair Curl Crème. And of course, you can follow up your styling with a good hairspray, like the evo mister fantastic blowout spray or the Oribe Superfine Hair Spray.

As Atkin advises above, the best approach to the Airwrap is to use it on gently towel-dried hair that’s freshly washed. In fact, starting with damp hair is crucial — Dyson advises that using the styler on dry hair means your ‘do won’t last as long. This is because unlike traditional hot tools, the Airwrap relies on streams of air to dry and set your hair simultaneously, without having to use potentially damaging levels of heat.

If you aren’t starting with freshly washed hair, you can still use the Airwrap — as Atkin shows in many of her styling videos, you can simply begin by using a spray bottle to lightly dampen your hair.

No need to have multiple separate tools for different hair styling needs — the new and improved Dyson Airwrap comes with eight attachments and accessories so you can dry, smooth, and curl hair (in two directions using the same attachment), while also hiding flyaways and creating voluminous blowouts. For hair that is chest length or longer, opt for the Airwrap Long (at no extra cost).
