Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler review: Your one-stop hair styling solution - Technology News

When it comes to hair styling tools, there are many options available across various budgets. You can get a straighter or a curler or even a dryer for as low as Rs 1,000, although it will not be from a big or reliable brand. And there lies the problem: some of these cheap styling tools not only spoil the texture of hair but, with prolonged use, may even lead to hair fall. Moral of the story? Invest in a hair styling tool from a known and reliable brand.

Now, usually, over here at India Today Tech, we do not review personal grooming gadgets. But often we have always made an exception for Dyson because their products tend to come with cutting-edge technology, a futuristic design, and some smart features. The Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler is one such product.

I have used the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler for two weeks. Thoughts? It is expensive. But it is also worth the price if you need tons of features, reliability, and a delightful design.

Dyson’s second generation Airwrap comes with new tools and, like other Dyson products, a cool design. It is offered in three colours: Rich copper and bright nickel, Bright nickel and rich copper, and Prussian blue and rich copper. The one featured in this review is the copper one. It comes at a price of Rs 45,900.

Now, that’s a hefty price tag and not a lot of people will really want to spend this much on a hair styling tool. But if you do want to, you will indeed get something unique.

There are multiple tools (six, to be specific) in the new Airwrap. These tools include: coanda smoothing dryer, 30mm long airwrap barrel, 40mm long airwap barrel, soft smoothing brush, firm smoothing brush and a round volumising brush. Now, each of these tools serves a different purpose. But the ones I used most during my 2 weeks with the machine are: coanda smoothing dryer, soft smoothing brush and round volumising brush.

I mostly used these brushes before heading out to office. In particular, I loved the coanda smoothing dryer, which helped dry my dampish hair and gave it a polished and clean look.

Then there is the soft smoothing brush, which not only helped with combing my hair and getting rid of knots but also kind of straightened them.

The machine may look massive and complicated, but it is easy to use all these tools. One bit that helps is that the core machine is also lightweight when compared to its predecessor.

Another good thing is that there is an option for temperature control with three settings. So, you can switch to the heat level that works best for you. I mostly used the machine at maximum temperature because it worked best for me.

The good bit is that even at maximum temperature, Dyson claims that the heat doesn’t spoil hair health. It comes with support for intelligent heat control and measures airflow temperature over 40 times a second. Dyson claims that the Airwrap comes with the capability to intelligently control the heating element and keep the temperature under 150°C preventing extreme heat damage.

The machine is powered by Dyson digital motor V9, which comes with a 13-blade impeller and spins at up to 110,000 rpm, generating 3.2k pa.

There is also a feature called “cold shot” that helps users in setting the overall look after the styling is done, although I didn't find it all that useful.

I didn’t use the three tools that help with waves and curls much. It, obviously, takes some time to get the right look with these tools. This is because you will need to take some part of hair, roll it in a certain way (as mentioned in the guide), and hold it for a few seconds until the curls and waves are done.

To use the Dyson Airwrap, I had to plug in the machine every time, which I found annoying given that we are nowadays used to everything cordless. I hope the next Airwrap will have a cordless design like the Dyson Corrale hair straightener.

So, is it worth the high price?

I think it depends. The Airwrap is great but expensive. But if you don't mind splurging, in the new Airwrap you will get a one-stop hair styling solution. As the name suggests, the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler styles your hair whichever way you want. Whether you want waves or curls or straight hair, the Airwrap does it all. And then there is the coanda, a smoothing dryer, which is the newest accessory and which I feel is one of the best parts of the new Airwrap.
